Futaba GY401 Radio Controlled Gyro Review

Though it has been many years since the introduction of the Futaba GY 401 gyro into the Radio Controlled market, its high performance and smooth operation has kept it on the top till date.  It is the best bench mark when compared to all other gyros.  It is suitable for 30-60 size RC Helicopters.

This is because its operation is about four times faster than conventional gyros and it measures 1” x 1” x 0.8” and equivalent of 27 x 27 x 20mm and weighs just 0.95oz an equivalent of 27g.  It has a remote gain feature and transmitter controlled switching to AVCS too.

It is designed such that the heading and gain lock or rate modes can be adjusted remotely with a settings menu present on a radio that is computerized.  So it requires a computerized radio that is programmable in order to program the different ATV values.  Without this it will not function.  But if yours is a non-computerized radios it would be the E-flite G90 or the Futaba GY240.

You can set the travel mode easily with the Futaba GY401.  It has a Limit Trimmer adjustment that is in-built in order to set the limit on the tail servo travel to avoid stress and over travel on the servo like the conventional methods used earlier.

This versatile piece of technology can be purchased by package only or through the Servo/Gyro combo package as well.  You have a choice with this.  The combo package comes with Futaba S9254 tail-rotor specific servo which is ultra fast and digitized.  It matches the Futaba GY401 Gyro perfectly and this enables it to work in a fast digital mode.
